No protected status information was available for Madagascar and both of the sites in Zambia are protected. 30 WHITE-FACED WHISTLING-DUCK Dendrocygna viduata Subspecies: Monotypic. Distribution: Widespread in tropical South America, southern Central America and Africa. The species occurs widely in Africa south of the Sahara and also in Madagascar and on the Comoro Islands. It is abundant in suitable areas, being in many places the most abundant species of Anatidae, and is the only common species of Anatidae on the coastal plain of West Africa.
