16 Another experienced educator who studied with Holm in 1941 was Elizabeth Hayes, who taught physical education and dance at colleges in West Virginia and Illinois. Hayes had taken three courses with Holm in New York and had been to Germany for a course with Wigman. During her long and illustrious teaching career at the University of Utah, Hayes sent many students to Holm’s summer courses. Her descriptions of the 1941 summer and the memories of another student, Frances [Davies] Wessells, color in the outlines of the first Hanya Holm summer session.
